Exhibit: Booths crane

Booths steam crane
BUILT: 1944
WEIGHT: 34tons

Built by Joseph Booths of Leeds number 5011. It is of a standard shunting type typical of the era but of a heavier build to normal. It has a lifting capacity of 7 1/2tons.

Little is known of its history, but it is believed to have been ordered for military use but with the imminent end of the war it remained at the factory. At some point, possibly pre 1970, the crane was moved to the Keithley and Worth Valley railway but due to its tall gauge could only work in certain areas. A new boiler which was in gauge was installed and the crane continued in use till 1985.
