This John Fowler 0-4-0 diesel mechanical centre-cab locomotive design was built from the early 1930’s up to 1949. It was particularly popular with the military, Fowler’s supplying 120 during the 2nd World War. This class were built in the 137-150hp range and many were fitted with Fowler-Sanders engines, this example is 150hp.
New in March 1948 it was supplied to Vauxhall Motors in Luton.
In December 1972 it was sold to GEO Cohen Sons Northants, where it was used in the scrap yard.
In February 1977 it escaped the scrap yard to be used at Weldit Engineering Ltd, Barrow in furness.
In July 1980 it was sold to the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway and in 1989 moved to the Derwent Valley railway, before arriving to NIRT in 2020.
